Beard season is a non-profit health promotion charity. Their mission is to champion the early detection of melanoma - one of the world’s deadliest cancers.

Australia is known as ‘the sunburnt country’ so it’s no surprise that our national cancer is melanoma. When found early the chances of survival are close to 100%, the problem is, those most at risk, people who live and work in our harshest environments will hardly ever have their skin checked.
Every winter, Beard season invites blokes to grow their beards and use them as life-saving conversation starters, encouraging their friends and family to visit a GP or dermatologist for a skin check before its too late.
Using funds raised through the Dreamstarter crowdfunding, Beard Season will run a number of screening clinics in regional Australia, where people can visit specialists, get a full body screening and learn what to keep their eye on. If anything requires a biopsy, the team will do it on the spot. If anything looks really suspicious they will make immediate plans with the nearest hospital for treatment. 10-15% of people we check find something which requires a referral, and 5-6% will have something likely to be cancerous.
