How does Everyday Round Up to Charity work?
Once you've switched on the feature and nominated a charity, the round up amount automatically leaves your Orange Everyday account every time you make an eligible card transaction.
This round up amount is first transferred to an ING holding account. Then, typically every two months, ING transfers all money in this account to a charity called Intelligent Foundation.
Intelligent Foundation then makes donations to nominated charities - they usually do this within 35 days of receiving the funds from ING.
This way, the charities don't receive lots of little donations and they save on administration costs.
Are my Everyday Round Up to Charity donations tax deductible?
Yes! You can claim a tax deduction provided you've donated $2 or more within the financial year via Everyday Round Up to Charity.
Remember, ING transfers the donations on your behalf to Intelligent Foundation who disburses the funds to participating charities. This means that your donation is to Intelligent Foundation, who is a Deductible Gift Recipient for tax purposes.
Most Everyday Round Up to Charity transactions will be paid to Intelligent Foundation within the same financial year. However, Everyday Round Up to Charity transactions debited from your account within the last 14 days of a financial year will not be included in the total amount for that financial year. Instead, these Round Ups will be included in the following year's total amount, due to processing time.
Should you require evidence of donations made via Everyday Round Up to Charity, your quarterly Orange Everyday statement details each Everyday Round Up to Charity transaction and summarises the total Rounded Up to Charity financial year to date. The total Rounded Up to Charity stated on your April - June statement reflects the amount donated to Intelligent Foundation on your behalf in that financial year. We recommend that you retain your April - June statement as written evidence to support your tax deduction claim.
A charity tax receipt is not available as we don't share your personal data with Intelligent Foundation.
For joint accounts, tax deductions generally should be shared equally between each account holder i.e. 50% for each person.

You should consult an independent financial, tax or other adviser for such information.
Can joint account holders both claim tax deductions with Everyday Round Up to Charity?
Yes.
For joint Orange Everyday accounts, tax deductions generally should be shared equally between each account holder.
So, if there are two account holders, each account holder generally claims 50% of the eligible donation regardless of whether one or both of the account holders have activated the Everyday Round Up to Charity feature.
Here's an example of how it works.
When 1 joint account holder rounds up to charity | When 2 joint account holders round up to charity |
If a $10 donation is made from the joint account by one account holder, each joint account holder may claim $5 as a tax deduction. | If a $10 donation is made, with $7 from one account holder and $3 from the other, each joint account holder may claim $5 as a tax deduction. |

Who is Intelligent Foundation?
ING has teamed up with Intelligent Foundation to disburse donations to other charities via Everyday Round Up to Charity.
Intelligent Foundation Ltd is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ABN 48 156 978 613) and is endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a 'Type 2' Deductible Gift Recipient.
While Intelligent Foundation endeavours to disburse your donation to the charity you have nominated, they have discretion on the funds. For example, they could use this discretion in the rare event that your nominated charity can't be funded (for instance if the charity lose their licence or fail an important compliance check). In this scenario, your donation could be used to support another charity available through the Everyday Round Up to Charity that works in a similar impact area.
How does ING decide which charities are available via Everyday Round Up to Charity?
We conducted research to understand the social causes that are most important to ING customers and Australians generally and what types of charities they'd like to support.
Within each social cause category, customers told us they want some range and choice - but not too much! So we've aimed to get the balance right.
Just as society continues to change, the charity list might change from time to time too.
Are the charities vetted?
While ING doesn't accept responsibility for the charities available through the Everyday Round Up to Charity feature, we do ensure they are registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC) and are endorsed by the Australian Taxation Office as a 'Type 1 Deductible Gift Recipient. Additionally the charities are:
What happens if something goes wrong with my nominated charity?
In the rare event your nominated charity cannot be funded (for example, they lose their charity licence), it will be removed from the list of charities available to nominate.
If your nominated charity is removed, Everyday Round Up to Charity will be automatically switched off. You'll also get an email notification to let you know. You can then switch it back on and nominate a new charity when you're ready.
Any round up amounts that have not yet been disbursed to this charity (either because they are in the ING holding account or because they're still with Intelligent Foundation), will be reallocated, at the discretion of Intelligent Foundation, to a similar charity available through the Everyday Round Up to Charity feature.
Is my data shared with any third parties via Everyday Round Up to Charity?
No, we anonymise your personal data so third parties (including the charities) can't access your personal details.
